Directions

Feeding: If possible, the newborn puppy should nurse on the mother for at least 2 days. The mother's first milk includes colostrum, which provides extra nutrition and short-term protection against some diseases. Do not microwave formula because the milk may become too hot. To warm the formula, pour the desired amount into pet nursing bottle and then place the bottle in a warm water bath. See the feeding chart for feeding frequency and amounts. Before feeding, test temperature of milk by squeezing a drop on your arm. It should feel comfortably warm. Feeding Guidelines: Never hold a puppy on its back when nursing. Rest the puppy on its tummy and hold the bottle at a 45 degree angle from above; Puppies will usually turn their heads away from the nipple when full; Sterilize the bottle and nipples before and between uses. Raising an orphan puppy requires not only frequent feedings, but keeping it warm and stimulating it to go to the bathroom by gently rubbing it genitalia with a cottonball moistened with water (preferably before and after feedings). This is essential for its survival; If the puppy develops diarrhea, cries constantly, fails to gain weight or becomes lethargic, take it to your veterinarian; When nursing, puppies should be weighed every other day to make certain they are growing properly and to help gauge proper feeding proportions. Weaning: At around four to five weeks, you can begin to wean the puppy. Coax your puppy to lap the formula from a shallow saucer by letting it lick formula from your finger. Once your puppy begins lapping, mix dry puppy food with warm Hartz Milk Replacement formula. Allow it to soften into a gruel. Thicken slightly each day until it is eating dry food. Mixing Directions and Feeding Chart: Mix one part powder to two parts room temperature water. Blend until lumps have dissolved completely. Directions for Use: Stir formula until smooth. Animal Body Weight: 4 oz; Mixture - Powder: 2 tsp; Room Temperature Water: 4 tsp. Animal Body Weight: 8 oz; Mixture - Powder: 4 tsp; Room Temperature Water: 8 tsp. Animal Body Weight: 16 oz; Mixture - Powder: 8 tsp; Room Temperature Water: 16 tsp. Feeding Frequency: Age in Days: 0-21 days; Feeding Frequency: every 2 hours. Do not freeze. Consult your veterinarian for feeding advice.
