Located at a rather high elevation of 400 meters above sea level, the Ceretto family farms their 4.8 hectares of this cru biodynamically, which winemaker Alessandro Ceretto feels provides ‘continuously more expressive wines year- after-year that are pleasing on the palate and remarkably dynamic.’ Ceretto Barbaresco Bernadot DOCG Red Wine is fermented with native yeasts. Ceretto’s Barbaresco goes through soft punch-downs and pump-overs during a cap-fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Alcoholic fermentation is followed by a 15-20 day maceration and ML is performed in oak. The finished wine is then aged 2 years: the former in old 300L barrels and the latter in large 50HL oak casks. In addition to barrel aging, the wine is also always aged for a minim of one year in bottle before release. “In 2000, I just began working with my family and that same year we released the first vintage of Bernadot. We debuted in Ceretto together. It was an intuition, or probably a risk to invest in this vineyard, located in an extraordinary position that borders the municipality of Treiso, over 400 meters which could represent a risk for a grape like Nebbiolo. Time has proved we were right and from the very first years this Barbaresco showed us all its enveloping softness.” - Roberta Ceretto
