How to Fit Your Helmet: A Bell helmet can only help protect you if it fits well. Make sure you try on different sizes and choose the size which feels most secure and comfortable on your head. If properly fitted, this helmet is designed to stay on your head in an accident. Even a correctly fitted helmet can be ejected off the head in some accidents, leading to injury or death. First, position the helmet on your head so that the lowest front edge is about 1-1/2 inches above your eyebrow. Your helmet should not be tilted back on your head (Figure 1) When the helmet is properly positioned on your head, both the front and the rear straps should be evenly tensioned. With the strap guides positioned just below the ears (Figure 2). If the straps are uneven, they can be adjusted by pulling them through the rear of the helmet. To adjust the length of the straps. use the strap guides to make the adjustments up or down so that the strap guide is positioned just below the ear (Figure 3). Any slack in the strap must be pulled through the chin buckle. The loose ends of the chin buckle strap must then be passed at least a half inch through the rubber 0 ring (Figure 4). The straps should not cover your ears. Next, close the chin buckle and tighten the combined straps until they are comfortable underneath your chin, as far back towards the throat as is comfortable. Position the buckle so that it is centered side to side (Figure 5). To see if your straps are correctly adjusted, try to pull the helmet off from both the front and the back. If it can be tipped forward, tighten the back straps. If it can be tipped backward, tighten the front straps if the helmet does not fit properly after adjustment, do not use the helmet! Choose another size and/or model of helmet that fits and which can be properly adjusted. Helmets With Fit Systems: Some helmets come equipped with a fit system. This system allows for the helmet to fit more comfortably and securely on the head while riding. Fit systems do not affect the helmet's ability to stay on in an accident; only the above retention system does that. For more information regarding proper use of the particular fit system installed on the helmet, visit www.bellhelmets.com/product-manuals. Helmets With Visors: Some helmets come equipped with visors. To remove a visor attached by pins into the helmet, pull the end of the visor loose from the helmet and then lift away from the helmet. To replace the visor, center it on the helmet and then snap the pins (A) on the visor into the holes (B) on the helmet (Figure 6). Do not try to remove the visor by pulling forward on the center. This will damage the helmet and the visor. Helmet Maintenance: Never leave your helmet in your car or anywhere near direct or indirect heat. If your helmet deteriorates as a result of exposure to heat, it is not covered by any Bell warranty. Bell also recommend that helmets be replaced every 3 to 5 years from the date of purchase. It is recommended you clean your helmet with mild soap and water, and with a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid harsh sunscreens, hair products. And skin products on the head while wearing the helmet.
