Supporting Cancer Survivors with Nonprofit Partner Luminaries

Instacart Health was designed to deliver the ingredients for healthier living using the power of our platform, products and partnerships. The food we eat has a direct impact on our health, and our technology can help organizations across the health ecosystem build and scale programs that increase access to nutritious foods and inspire sustainable healthy habits. Today, we reach more than 95% of U.S. households – including 93% of people living in U.S. food deserts – offering a new way to scale impact and give more people the nutrition education and access they need to thrive.
We’re proud to announce a new partnership with Luminaries, a non-profit survivorship program dedicated to breaking down barriers and empowering survivors by providing the tools to help them progress in their survivorship with strength, good health, and a positive mindset. Luminaries’ new ‘Fuel Practice’ program uses Instacart Health Fresh Funds and a tailored Virtual Storefront to offer nutritional stipends and nutrition education to survivors facing food insecurity.
“A healthy diet is a vital part of a cancer survivor’s journey during and after treatment. Instacart has significant reach, and this aligns with Luminaries’ innovative approach to reaching the growing population of geographically and socioeconomic disadvantaged cancer survivors with guidance and hands-on tools to help greater well-being after diagnosis. Our partnership provides nutritious foods to survivors that can help lessen common side effects of cancer treatment, empowering them to savor each healthy meal with intention through survivorship – all from the comfort of their home.”
Luminaries co-founder and cancer survivor, Laura Hendricks
The program gives qualifying Luminaries members an Instacart+ membership and $50 of Fresh Funds per month for three months to purchase Luminaries’ recommended nutritious foods, easily found via Luminaries branded Virtual Storefront for delivery from local grocers on Instacart. Survivors can also use their SNAP benefits and credit or debit cards to complete their full grocery shop online in one order. Today, Instacart offers SNAP online acceptance in all 50 states, reaching nearly 95% of U.S. households enrolled.
Our technology offers organizations – like Luminaries – the tools needed to measure the impact of their programs, including what survivors are ordering with their Fresh Funds. Participants agree to share purchase data with Luminaries, allowing the organization to track and report on the Fuel Practice program’s tangible impact on supported survivors. Following the three-month program, we’ll work closely with Luminaries to assess outcomes and look forward to sharing results in the coming months.
We also recently shared results from our work with Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA), proving the power of Fresh Funds to help food insecure families discover new produce, purchase more fruits and vegetables and adopt healthier habits.
