Last month, Instacart and our [email protected] Employee Resource Group (ERG) focused on reflection, advocacy, and celebration of the resilience of women — both past and present.
[email protected] Instacart is our largest employee resource group with over 600 members. Founded in 2016, the community is dedicated to its mission to attract, retain, and grow anyone who identifies as a woman at Instacart.
In honor of Women’s History Month, we were proud to host company-wide programming that aimed to foster an inclusive culture and support initiatives related to retaining, hiring, developing, and progressing women. Some of the highlights included a workshop on career growth and self-advocacy led by our CCO and CHRO, “Lettuce Chat” conversations with women senior leaders across the company, a partnership with The Letter Project, a Barry’s Bootcamp workout class to support the Battered Women’s Justice Project, and continuing our workshop series with Check Your Privilege in partnership with our Nightshades ERG.
We also shared stories and advice from members of the team to help amplify and uplift the voices of our community. Meet Sales Executive, Olivia Rodriguez, Manager of Product Support, Melisa Archie, Engineering Director, Xiao Guo, and Manager of Partner Store Operations, Rebecca Younis.
While March has been a time to uplift women, it’s important to recognize the issues that are disproportionately impacting Black mothers and women of color as well as the significant downshift of women and working moms leaving the workforce.
Resilience with support from allies is more important than ever. Here are a few ways you can continue to be a strong advocate and ally for women in the workplace as shared by Instacart’s [email protected] community:
Be Intentional. Foster an inclusive and supportive working environment by recognizing and considering your team norms, unique working styles, and the needs of all team members.
Aim to Understand. Learning and seeking to understand lived experiences is critical to ensure women’s voices are seen and heard.
Recognize. Lift up the great work of the women around you. Give a shout-out to a woman on your team (or a woman you’ve worked alongside in the past) on LinkedIn.
Thank you to our [email protected] community and our employees who helped us celebrate Women’s History Month.
