About The Fresh Market

The Fresh Market is an American chain of gourmet supermarkets founded by Ray and Beverly Berry. During their travels abroad, European markets inspired the Berrys. Whereas European markets were intimate and charming, American grocery stores at the time consisted of mainly warehouse-style supermarkets, giving the Berrys the idea to enhance the grocery shopping experience using a European-style market as the framework. Ray Berry left his job at Southland, Colorado, and the couple poured all of their life savings into what would become The Fresh Market. They opened the first store in Greensboro, North Carolina, in 1982. They've since expanded to 159 locations in 22 states.

Customers shopping at any of The Fresh Market locations enjoy the essence of a European-style market in a store that features premium meats, seasonal fruits, fresh seafood, savory breads, decadent pastries, and coffee with distinct and inviting scents. In addition to enjoying The Fresh Market's vast selection, customers can rest assured knowing that each item is natural, great-tasting, and as fresh as the store title proclaims.
