Changed "The Meat We Eat" to "The Meat We Don't"
Reviewed on March 21, 2023 by Hungry Family on applegate.com
The recipe change, though perhaps slight by processing standards, has turned a breakfast staple to something my family won't eat. I'm unhappy to say we will have to be buying an inferior quality product to replace the premium taste and texture of the old recipe. While I'm not as discerning as my kids, even I didn't care for the change and found them to be not worth the calories. As a mother of picky eaters, I would have appreciated a packaging change or notice to indicate the new recipe. Now I have 3 boxes that will go uneaten. Disappointed and discouraged.

        Change is awful!
Reviewed on March 14, 2023 by GoBackToOldRecipe on applegate.com
My kids used to eat this sausage practically every morning. I recently bought a new box and realized they looked different. I gave them to my kids and they couldn't even swallow it. The texture is weird, the taste is weird - all together bad. I do NOT recommend. Please go back to the old recipe!

They are SO AWFUL NOW!! Why the change?
Reviewed on March 7, 2023 by Momofmany on applegate.com
We too used to buy these every week going through many boxes a month and we have noticed a change. Very strange texture and almost foam/rubber like with an awful taste of rancid meat. We tried a few more times thinking it was just a bad batch and it was still that odd, squishy, unpleasant texture and taste so we said we are done buying these anymore, especially since the price increased and the quality went way down. So sad because these were the BEST breakfast sausages out there. My husband and I said it's too bad they sacrificed the quality just to try to increase their profit.

Change to natural chicken sausage is HORRIBLE
Reviewed on February 24, 2023 by No more sausage lover on applegate.com
Our family too, like another reviewer posted, have been buying the chicken maple sausages for years. We would go through at least a box a day, more if extended family was in the house. (kids and grandkids). I don't know when the change actually happened as we keep a stock, but no longer like them at all. Totally different taste and texture. Seems something very odd it is almost indescribable. The other reviewer nailed it. These were our go to, now we will give away what we have left unfortunately.

        Why the change??
Reviewed on February 24, 2023 by usedtolovethem on applegate.com
I've been eating these for breakfast for a few years and found them as a great way to get protein in the morning for a satisfying breakfast. The recent change is so obvious with both worse texture and worse taste. So disappointing to lose a favorite breakfast staple but the new changes make them not worth buying. Super bummed.

        Texture is unappealing
Reviewed on February 21, 2023 by Tone on applegate.com
Applegate should find out why the non-organic links have such a rubbery texture. The organic ones are great, but these are lousy in comparison.

Good but hard bits in sausage
Reviewed on December 22, 2021 by Chris on applegate.com
This sausage flavor is very good and one of my favorites but here recently there are A LOT of hard un-chewable bits per sausage patty. I have to spit out several bites which is unacceptable. I would suggest doing a much better job processing the chicken so that only meat is in this product. It's gross to have hard things in sausage patties.

        Change for the worse
Reviewed on March 31, 2023 by Family of four on applegate.com
We have been eating these for years but for the second time I threw them out. I thought I got a bad box but then when I bought another one, it was the same. They are disgusting. My kids wouldn't eat it and when my husband and I tasted it, we agreed! Not sure why they changed the recipe. They used to be a favorite of ours.

        Horrible change to sausage links!
Reviewed on March 25, 2023 by Tc on applegate.com
My husband and I used to LOVE these sausage and ate them everyday. Now they've clearly made a change and it's not for the better. In addition to the weird taste the now also collapse after cooking and look really shriveled up. After 4 years of faithfully eating only these sausages, I have to say goodbye.

Were terrific but new recipe is the taste of sadness
Reviewed on March 11, 2023 by Red Robin on applegate.com
I eat these sausages literally every morning. I had a few boxes that were terrible and found out the recipe had changed. If the box doesn't have brown sugar on the ingredient list, it's the new recipe and will taste terrible. The taste is bad the texture is bad, and I'm going to have to find a new breakfast.

        Don't like the change
Reviewed on January 8, 2023 by Long time customer on applegate.com
I have been buying the chicken maple sausage for years since it is a family favorite. Although I try to usually buy organic my kids and I preferred the taste and texture of the "regular". We immediately noticed when they changed the product recently. Hardly any maple flavor anymore and more little white bits to pick out. Definitely disappointed.

        Yum!
Reviewed on November 9, 2022 by Usako on applegate.com
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've never tried eating this kind of breakfast sausage before, so I was a little skeptical if I was going to like it or not. Apparently I do because I found the contrast between the slight sweetness of the maple syrup and the spices to be quite pleasant. It's not very salty, which is something nice too. I think I would consider buying this again in the future, or at the very least, be more willing to try out the other varieties.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Applegate is one of my favorite natural brands and this chicken maple sausage only solidifies these feelings more! The flavor of these breakfast sausages is on point. I usually prefer chicken & turkey so having that option for a sausage is great.
