ACHAVAL FERRER HAS ONE SINGLE PASSION - to craft world class terroir-driven wines from Argentina. Achaval Ferrer produces the most critically acclaimed Malbecs from Mendoza, sourced from single vineyards with deliberately low yields and old ungrafted vines.

A CENTURY IN THE MAKING - with vineyards planted in 1910, 1921 and 1950, and at 730-1110m above sea level, the wines’ potential is set in the vineyard and the team remains focused on terroir. Achaval Ferrer also has a state-of-the-art winery, located in Perdriel, Mendoza, Argentina. The winemaking philosophy at Achaval Ferrer is based on three key pillars: century-old ungrafted vines, deliberately low yields, and low intervention winemaking.

CENTURY OLD UNGRAFTED VINES - century-old vines deliver exceptional expressions of terroir. Ungrafted vines produce wines that are much darker in color, lower in pH, have a greater flavor intensity and a better aging potential. Old vines have the root system is four times larger than the canopy, reaching depths of 30+ feet, which allows them to reach nutrients that younger vines cannot. Delivering a more stable quality from vintage to vintage, old vines are better balanced and are focused on producing exceptional fruit, not leaf or shoot vigor.

DELIBERATELY OLD YIELDS - low yields offer a more concentrated, powerful, intense, complex, vibrant, and fresh fruit. Through winter pruning and green harvesting, the winemaking team extracts much more complexity from the vines and a more concentrated expression of terroir.

LOW INTERVENTION - low intervention in the vineyards is followed by low intervention at the winery. Achaval Ferrer does not add enzymes, sulfites nor sugar. It does not filter, fine nor correct acidity. And it does not practice cold soaks, racking off the lees, extended maceration nor malolactic inoculation. Less is more.

TASTING NOTES - Bella Vista vineyard was planted in 1910 at the Mendoza River south bank in the region of Perdriel (Lujan de Cuyo). It is distinguished by its smoothing features and finely meshed texture. It is elegant and aromatic with an endless finish and a juicy acidity that stands out. It is the most elegant expression of Malbec that you will find anywhere.
