Pearled ancient grain. Delallo since 1950. Healthy Whole Grains: One of the oldest cultivated grains, farro is a highly nutritious staple packed with fiber and protein. DeLallo Farro is of the emmer varietal, which is grown on small farms in Tuscany, Italy. Loved for its nutty flavor and unique chewy texture, this versatile grain shines in hearty soups, farrotos (risotto-style dishes), salads, side dishes, grain bowls and hot breakfast creations.
Ingredients
Organic Pearled Farro (emmer Wheat).
Directions
Farro can be cooked simply in water, but because it readily absorbs flavors during the cooking process, we recommend preparing farro in a broth or water seasoned with aromatics (onion, garlic, leeks, shallots, carrots, celery, etc.). To enhance its nutty flavor, toast farro in a dry skillet before cooking. Rice Method: This is the best method for retaining nutrients. Using the ratio of 2 parts water to 2 parts farro, place farro in a saucepan and add water. Bring to a boil. Cover with a tight-fitting lid, then turn heat to low and simmer for 12-15 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed. Farro should be cooked for an al dente texture. Pasta Method: In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook farro for about 12-15 minutes, or until al dente. Drain. 1 cup of dry farro = 3 cups cooked farro. Delanllo Farro is pearled, which means its outer bran is removed for a quicker cook time that does not require overnight soaking.
