Directions

Keeps best refrigerated or frozen. Baking: For 1-1/2 pound bread machine: Put 1-1/8 cups warm tap water into machine. Locate and remove the enclosed yeast packet. Then add the contents of this package of Rye Bread Mix, 2 tbsp canola (or other) oil, and contents of the yeast packet. Put machine on basic white bread or medium setting. Turn on machine. Now enjoy that great old world flavor of rye bread. Baking by Hand for Conventional Ovens (This package makes 1 loaf): Locate and remove the enclosed yeast packet. Add contents of the yeast packet to the mix. Combine the Rye Bread Mix, 2 tbsp canola (or other) oil and 1-1/8 cups warm tap water. Knead 8-10 minutes on a floured surface. Place in a greased bowl, Cover & let rise in a warm place until doubled (approx 1-1/2 hours). Punch down, cover & let rise until doubled (approx. 30 - 40 min). Form loaf and place in a greased 9x5x3 bread pan. Grease top of loaf. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until doubled (approx. 45 min). Bake at 375 degrees for 30 - 40 minutes. Thump top of loaf. A hollow sound indicates a properly baked loaf. Turn out of pan, cover with a towel and cool before slicing.
