Premium. Gluten free. Natural sheep casing artificially colored. Fully cooked. US inspected and passed by Department of Agriculture. Since 1918. 4th generation family owned. Smile big with sunset farm foods. Back in 1918, W.W. Carroll borrowed $50 from his father, hoping to get away from the farming life of his parents. Though he only had a 3rd grade education, W.W. was known to be able to out-figure, outtalk anyone and he joked that W.W. meant willing to work. Thus began a life of trading, peddling, and selling. Behind his 3 room house W.W. butchered hogs, scalding them in a cast iron kettle surrounded by bricks with a roaring fire underneath. The carcass would then be hung from two poles and butchered. W.W. could buy the hog from a farmer, bring it home, butcher it, and sell the pork before the check would clear back to the farmer. Outgrowing the backyard facilities, W.W. purchased land in 1932 that is still used today for our current facility. In 1937, the company was named W.W. Carroll & Son when W.W.'s son, Jamie, came aboard. In 1938, the name was changed again, this time to Carroll Stockyards, an appropriate name given the company's involvement in cattle ranching. Tired of using rented facilities, W.W. and Jamie embarked on building their own processing, butchering, and refrigerated facilities. In 1948, the name was changed again to Carroll Packing Company to emphasize the growing focus on retail and wholesale meats. In 1965 and 1971, the third generation came aboard. In 1969 a sausage recipe was created that would become the pride of Sunset Farm Foods - the same recipe we use today. In 1980, the name was changed again to Sunset Farm Foods. In 1997, the fourth generation came aboard. Today at Sunset Farm Foods we continue the tradition of crafting quality delicious products that we love to take home to our own families.
