The lion has been the emblem of the Hess family for generations. It has come to symbolize the bold and preserving nature of founder Donald Hess and our winery home on Mount Veeder. The Hess Collection has long been known for its big, bold, mountain Cabernets, yet malbec usually finds its way into many of our blends. The name lion taker has become our nickname for malbec because winemaker Dave Guffy uses this grape to tame powerful tannins. This red blend brings all the finishes with smooth and tamed round tannins. 14.8% Alc. by vol.
40% Malbec, 27% Zinfandel, 21% Petite Sarah, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Mourvedre, 1% Petit Verdot, 1% Merlot.
Contains sulfites. (1) According to the surgeon general, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects. (2) Consumption of alcoholic beverage impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause health problems.
