We hunted and gathered and selected the most delectable organic ancient grains to complement our mixes, going to the ends of the earth and the beginning of time for these baking delights. (Full disclosure: we didn't do any time travel, but we did taste and test ancient grains that have been preserved through the ages.) Ancient grains have been a diet staple for thousands of years with good reason: They are rich in nutrients, less chewy than other whole grains and have less gluten than modern wheat flour. What's not to love? We would like to introduce you to our new (ancient) favorites: Kamut - Believed to be of Egyptian origin, this ancient grain is higher in protein than many other whole grains. And it's a good source of selenium, zinc, magnesium, and iron. Spelt - A prehistoric ancestor of modern wheat, spelt is an excellent source of manganese and a good source of fiber, vitamin B3, and protein. Organic Wheat Flour, Organic Cane Sugar, Organic Coconut Sugar, Baking Powder (monocalcium Phosphate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Corn Starch), Organic Flavoring, Organic Spelt, Organic Vanilla Flavoring, Salt, Organic Kamut Khorasan Wheat.
Directions
What You Need: 1 cup water or milk, 1/2 cup oil, 3 eggs. Baking: 1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Lightly grease baking pan. 2. Add cake mix, water, oil and eggs to large mixing bowl. Beat on low speed for 2 minutes. 3. Bake as directed below or until toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean. 4. Cool 10 minutes before removing from pan. Cool completely before frosting. Baking Times: 13 inch x 9 inch pan, two 8 inch or 9 inch rounds: 30-35 minutes. 24 cupcakes (2/3 full): 18-23 minutes. 48 mini cupcakes (2/3 full): 16-21 minutes.
