Account information

When you have changes to your personal information, it’s easy to update your name, delivery address(es), and phone number on Instacart. You can also update your email notification preferences and how we contact you about deliveries in your account.

Updating profile information

To make changes to your name, email address, phone number, or password, follow the directions for the website or app.

In the app—

  1. Tap Account
  2. Tap Your account settings
  3. Tap Your name, email, and phone
  4. Update the information you’d like to change
    • To update your password, choose Change password
  5. Tap Save

On Instacart.com—

  1. Click Account > Your Account
  2. Select Your account settings
  3. Click Change next to the information you’d like to update
  4. Update the information
  5. Click Save

Please note—if you use Facebook or Google to log into your account, you’ll have to update your account information in your Facebook or Google account.

Updating delivery address

You can add, update, or remove delivery addresses at any time on your account.

In the app—

  1. Tap Account
  2. Tap Your account settings
  3. Tap Addresses
  • To add an address, tap Add new address
  • To edit an address, select the address you want to change
  • To remove an address, slide left over the address until you see the Delete button and tap Delete
  • You can also include delivery instructions for specific addresses in this section of the app.
  • On Instacart.com—

    1. Select Account > Your Account
    2. Click Your account settings
    3. Click Addresses
    • To add an address, click + New Delivery Address
    • To edit an address, select the address you want to change
    • To remove an address, select the address you want to delete, and click the Delete button
  • You can also include delivery instructions for specific addresses in this section of your profile.
  • Please note—address changes will go into effect for orders placed after you make the updates. If you have an order in process and the delivery address is incorrect, please call Instacart Care for help.

    Updating notifications and email settings

    You can decide how you’d like to get notifications and emails from Instacart—or you can opt out of them altogether.

    To change your notification preferences for orders on Instacart.com or in the app—

    1. Choose Your Account
    2. Select Your account settings
    3. Select Notifications
    4. You can decide how you’d like to be contacted when there is an update to your order. Toggle on any or all options here.
    • Send a push notification—alerts sent from the app to your phone’s notification display
    • Send an SMS message—alerts sent as a text message to the phone number in your account
    • Call before checkout—you’ll get a call from the Shopper working on your order to review any changes before checkout.

    Please note—if you turn off all notifications for order updates, you won’t get any alerts about the status of your order, including replacements and refunds.

    To change your email subscription settings—

    1. Choose Your Account
    2. Select Your account settings
    3. Select Notifications
    4. You can decide whether you’d like to receive marketing emails here. 
    • In the app—toggle on/off Receive marketing emails
    • On Instacart.com—select Manage email preferences to opt in/out of marketing emails.

    Please note—you’ll still receive emailed order confirmations, even if you unsubscribe from marketing emails. 

    If you’re not receiving emails from Instacart, please check your “Spam” or “Junk” folders to ensure the message was not filtered or flagged incorrectly.

    Your account information

    When you place an order on Instacart, you may be asked if you’d like to opt into sharing your information with the retailer. On that opt-in screen, we’ll tell you what information will be shared if you select Allow.

    Personal information that retailers may see if you opt in includes—

    • Name
    • Phone number
    • Email address
    • Delivery address
    • Order details

    Note that information that you choose to share with retailers will be controlled by the specific retailer and subject to their privacy policy.

    Updating your payment methods

    We accept many forms of payment—all major US and Canada credit and debit cards, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. For quick and convenient checkout, you can save your preferred payment method to your account.

    At this time, we don’t accept prepaid credit cards, store gift cards, EBT cards, or international payments.

    We're sorry for the inconvenience as we're currently not able to accept:

    • Prepaid credit cards
    • PayPal
    • Cash
    • Store gift cards
    • EBT cards
    • International payments
    • Any other forms of payment not listed as accepted above

    The 2014 Farm Bill authorized USDA to conduct and evaluate a pilot for online purchasing prior to national implementation. Unfortunately, Instacart is not currently part of that pilot, meaning we are unable to accept SNAP benefits or similar types of government food assistance as payment on our platform at this time. 

    If you would like to use SNAP or related benefits on the Instacart platform in the future, we recommend that you contact your elected federal officials and voice your support for expanding the program.

    Add a payment method

    You can add payment methods at any time—before, after, or while placing an order. 

    To add a payment method on Instacart.com or in the app—

    1. Click or tap Account
    2. Select Your account settings
    3. Select Payment Methods
    4. Choose Add credit card
    5. Enter the card information and Save

    Note—for American Express cards, use the 3-digit code on the back of the card for the “CVC” number.

    Remove a payment method

    To remove a payment method on Instacart.com or in the app—

    1. Click or tap Account
    2. Select Your account settings
    3. Select Payment Methods
    4. Select Edit
    5. Choose the payment method you’d like to delete
    • On Instacart.com, select the three dots and choose Delete
    • On the app, tap the red circle to delete

    Change payment for an order

    Everyone makes mistakes. When you realize too late that you’ve picked the wrong form of payment, you can move the charges on orders you’ve already placed to a different payment method. Here’s how—

    1. First, you must wait until after the order is delivered.
    2. Make sure the card you’d like to use is already added to your account.
    3. Contact Instacart Support to give us the last 4 digits of the card you’d like to move the charges to.

    Please note—we’ll need to issue a refund for the original form of payment before the new charges apply to the updated form of payment. This could take 3-5 business days to process.

    Login and account access issues

    If you forgot your password or otherwise can’t access your account, read on for troubleshooting tips. 

    Forgot password

    To reset your password—

    1. Look for Forgot your password? on the login page
    2. Click or tap Reset it
    3. Enter your email address
    4. Click or tap Reset Password 
    5. Check your email for the reset email confirmation and follow the steps

    If you don’t see the password reset email within a few minutes, please check your junk/spam folder.

    Account suspended

    Sometimes Instacart may suspend customer accounts as a security measure to prevent fraud. Our top priority is keeping your personal information secure.

    If your account appears to be suspended, you won’t be able to place any orders. Please reach out to Instacart Care, and we can assist you.

    Add a store loyalty or membership card to your account

    Some retailers on our platform offer membership or loyalty card integration, so you can continue to receive select benefits while shopping on Instacart. You can see participating retailers in your area and add cards in your Instacart account.

    On Instacart.com or in the app—

    1. Log into your account
    2. Select Account
    3. Under Your account settings, select Loyalty cards
    4. Click or tap on a retailer to add your card number
    5. Enter the retailer loyalty program or membership number
    6. Click or tap Add to save.

    At this time, we’re unable to confirm the application of your card information on our end. You’re welcome to contact the participating retailer directly with your Instacart receipt.

    Membership club and loyalty card pricing

    We only offer prices according to our pricing policy and therefore may not be able to offer any sale or promotional prices associated with loyalty card usage.

    Closing your account

    Having an Instacart account is absolutely free! There is no charge for keeping an account open with us. We’ll be adding new stores, features, and exclusive deals as we continue to grow.
