Hunger Action Month®, recognized by Feeding America® food banks across the country every September, is a month-long campaign to raise awareness of hunger in our country and promote ways for individuals everywhere to get involved with the effort to fight it. As a Feeding America Supporting Partner for the past three years, Instacart remains committed to the fight against hunger and food insecurity via its efforts to support the Feeding America network of food banks. During Hunger Action Month, Instacart is pleased to announce three new non-profit partnerships in support of our mission to create a world where everyone has access to the food they love and more time to enjoy it together.

No Kid Hungry: Childhood Hunger Research Partnership

No Kid Hungry, a national campaign to end childhood hunger, has long been a leader in researching the childhood hunger landscape to help identify the best possible programs, solutions, and resources for communities across the country. Instacart is pleased to become a National No Kid Hungry Partner and to support an upcoming independent research study by No Kid Hungry in partnership with the University of Kentucky that will examine the impact of online purchasing in urban and rural communities with a special focus on SNAP households. With this study, No Kid Hungry seeks to better understand SNAP online ordering and how it could be improved to better meet the needs of low-income and low-food-access households.

World Central Kitchen: Climate Disaster Relief

Instacart is proud to donate $150,000 to World Central Kitchen’s (WCK) Climate Disaster Fund, which helps WCK adapt in real-time to serve meals wherever they are needed and respond with urgency to increased climate-related disasters. Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, WCK uses the power of food to nourish communities and strengthen economies in times of crisis and beyond. The organization has created a new model for disaster response through its work helping devastated communities recover and establish resilient food systems, and has served more than 50 million fresh meals to people impacted by natural disasters and other crises. Most recently, WCK mobilized to nourish the communities in Louisiana affected by the devastation of Hurricane Ida.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America: Summer Meals Programming

Each summer, the rate of childhood food insecurity increases as millions of children miss meals they would otherwise have access to at school. At the start of the summer, Instacart partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs of America on a summer hunger pilot program, donating $125,000 to the national Boys & Girls Clubs of America organization and $125,000 in Instacart grocery credits to five local Boys & Girls Clubs, including Los Angeles, Chicago, North Alabama, Greater St. Louis, and Southeastern Michigan to help fight childhood summer hunger and narrow the learning loss gap within these communities. With Instacart’s support, Boys & Girls Clubs have been able to provide snacks, meals and groceries to more than 4,000 youth and their families this summer.

As the lasting effects of the pandemic and climate-related disasters continue to drive increased food insecurity, Instacart’s continued work with Feeding America and new partnerships with No Kid Hungry, World Central Kitchen, and Boys & Girls Clubs of America are just the beginning as we commit to helping to nourish communities most in need via Instacart Serves.
