Over the last few months, we’ve been introducing new retailers to the Instacart marketplace to offer customers even more selection and value. As we’ve added new retailers, we’ve been working to make the delivery process just as seamless for a pair of earbuds as it is an ear of corn. With these expanded offerings from new and existing retailers, customers are increasingly looking to Instacart shoppers to deliver not just their weekly groceries, but also a variety of everyday essentials and gifts for their homes.

To give both shoppers and customers an easier way to confirm delivery of high-value items, we’re introducing a new Certified Delivery feature. With Certified Delivery, customers confirm that they will be home to accept and sign for high-value items, such as small electronics from retailers like Best Buy.

Certified Delivery for High-Value Items

When a customer places an order with certain high-value items, they’ll have to confirm they’ll be home at the time of delivery to sign for their order. At delivery, the shopper will be prompted that the customer needs to sign for the item.

After the customer has signed for their item, the shopper will be notified in the app and Certified Delivery will be complete. If the customer isn’t able to sign their phone for any reason, the shopper can also scan the customer’s ID.

Just like signing for a package at the door, both shoppers and customers will be able to verify that the items were delivered safely. By signing on their own phone, customers and shoppers can maintain social distancing while still ensuring a safe handoff. Because the customer will have signed for their item and verified they received it, they won’t need to report an item missing in the app.

We always want to ensure shoppers and customers have a great delivery experience. From Leave at my Door to contactless alcohol delivery, we’ve been working to provide new features that help make deliveries safe and effective for everyone on the Instacart platform. Now with the Certified Delivery feature, we’re adding enhancements to safeguard the handoff of high-value items for Instacart shoppers and customers.
