The Instacart community is as diverse as the items in the grocery store — every day, tens of thousands of individuals shop, deliver, and become an extension of people’s households. We want to share this community’s stories, highlighting Instacart shoppers, shift leads, and site managers all across North America. 10 Items or Less is a series featuring just some of the amazing members of the Instacart community, sharing their unique experiences and secret sauce with the world.

1. What’s your name and where are you from? I’m Sherry and I’m from Denver, Colorado.

2. How long have you been working with Instacart, and in what roles? I joined the Instacart platform at the start of the pandemic, and I’m a full-service shopper.

3. When and why did you decide to start working with Instacart? As soon as I found out I could lose my long-time job due to COVID-19, I signed up for Instacart. I knew I wanted to help others while being able to pay the bills.

4. What’s your favorite thing about working with Instacart? I love that I am able to help others that cannot leave their homes. Not only am I helping elderly and disabled people, but also quarantined folks and families with young children.

5. What’s a fun fact that would surprise us about you? I had an encounter with a black bear and was featured on Inside Edition, Good Morning America, news stations worldwide and just recently, the Dr. Oz show.

6. What’s a shopping tip that a lot of people might not know (your “secret sauce”)? Grab one of the hand wipes by the carts and use them to wet your fingers to open the produce bags. They are also nice for handling meat that might leak.

7. Do you have any relationships you’ve made while working with Instacart? I love interacting with other shoppers and especially the store staff. The folks in produce are always super nice, as are the checkers!

8. What’s your most-used Instacart emoji? A giant smile!

9. What’s your “side dish” — a hobby, a hidden talent, another job you do on the side? I hike 2–3 times a week and have climbed 13 of Colorado’s 14,000 foot mountains as well as several of the 13,000 feet as well!

10. What’s one piece of guidance or encouragement you would give to our shopper community? Slow down, breathe and take one order, one customer and one store at a time. Do not rush — give your best to each and every customer. Stay safe and well, and thank you for all you do!
